The subject Development of Propulsion Systems proposes the advanced study of propulsive systems in aeronautics. In the context of the syllabus of the Master in Aeronautical Engineering, the principal objective of the subject is to provide the student with those necessary skills for the exercise of the profession in the field of aeronautical propulsive systems.
The main issues that are developed in the framework of the subject can be summarized as: the study of engine performance and its variation with environmental and operating conditions, the analysis of the different types of existing engine and the testing and certification of the aeronautical engines.
In view of the contents to be developed throughout the subject, it may be evident that a whole series of previous knowledge will be necessary to make it possible to understand and follow it properly. This makes it advisable to have previously studied, during the degree, at least thermodynamics subjects (resolution of cycles and properties of ideal gases) and the fundamentals of propulsion / gas turbines (architecture of an engine and fundamental equations: thrust, consumption, performance). Ideally, and to facilitate the follow-up of the subject, it is recommended and very useful to have taken specific subjects related to jet and turboprop engines.
The structure of thematic units proposed in the subject allows to develop all the mentioned aspects. It should be noted that the first topics aim at remembering and / or establishing a common knowledge base about aeromotors for all students, trying to smooth out the differences due to the different intensifications taken during the degree. These first chapters serve as the basis to develop the study and analysis of aeronautical engines.
